STEPHEN H. COOK

Steve Cook is the President and founder of the Law Firm of Stephen H. Cook, P.C. He has been a practicing trial attorney since 1975. He received a B.A. of History in 1971 and his J.D. in 1975 from the University of Colorado. Mr. Cook is admitted to practice in all Colorado courts, including the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Cook was an associate with the law firm of Bragg & Dubofsky, a personal injury firm, from 1976-78. In 1978, he founded his own firm. His practice has emphasized representing clients in personal injury, insurance, and commercial litigation. He has tried as lead counsel over 70 civil jury trials in personal injury and commercial matters, in both state and federal court. He has been appellate counsel in reported decisions including three cases involving issues of first impression in Colorado. Mr. Cook has also chaired or been a board member of several committees. He was a board member of the Boulder County Bar Association from 1984-87, and chaired its Civil Litigation Committee from 1983-84. He also served as co-chair of the Joint Medical-Legal Committee of the Boulder County Bar Association and Medical Society from 1986-87, and 2000-01. He was a member of the Public Relations Committee of the Colorado Trial Lawyer's Association from 1987-89 and also served on its Committee to Monitor the Colorado Mandatory Arbitration Act in that same period. He is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Boulder County Bar Association, the Colorado Trial Lawyer's Association, and the American Trial Lawyer's Association.

Mr. Cook has also published articles on civil litigation. He authored "Hearsay as a Basis for Opinion Testimony," Colorado Lawyer (December 1988); "Momentum Shifts to Policyholders in State Farm's Self-proclaimed War on PIP Claimants," Vol. 43, Issue 8, Trial Talk (September 1994); "Distinguishing Between Predisposition to Injury and Pre-existing Condition," Vol. 43, Issue 10, Trial Talk (November 1994); and "The So-called Independent Medical Exam: Effectively Representing Injury Victims on an Unlevel Playing Field," Vol. 44, Issue 11, Trial Talk (December 1995).

Steve is a father and husband. His wife is a practicing physician, board-certified in rehabilitation medicine. He also is active in the volunteer community. From 1979-86, he was a member of the Board of Directors for Mapletree, Inc., a non-profit treatment center for young children with severe learning and/or emotional disabilities. For 12 years beginning in 1987, he was on the Board of Directors of Parenting Place, which provides educational and peer-support programs on child-rearing for parents. He now regularly coaches youth sports for his children's teams.
